So, i now eat breakfast. Which I never did before. That in itself i an accomplishment. Some of you may be thinking I just fry up some turkey bacon and eat it on the walk to work. While yes, that does sound delicious, sadly they don't really have turkey bacon here. The office provides milk for coffee, but that milk also can be used for museli which i have been bringing into the office. And bananas. And sometimes other fruit like peaches or nectarines. As fascinating as that is, here is the point. In DC, I would never do that. Certainly I had access to cereals and fruit. I could have brought milk to the office and put it in my mini fridge which was literally under my desk. But I didn't. There is something about being abroad which changes my habits and I don't know what it is or why it is but it's noticeable. It was the same in Japan and in NZ. I ate healthier. I walked more.
I'm not saying the US is inherently unhealthy. I know plenty of people who ate lots of fruit and big breakfasts every morning. So what is different? I don't know but I'm accepting possible theories.
Fascinating observation, actually. I felt a lot healthier when I lived in Spain too. Of course, not owning a car and walking everywhere kinda made that decision for me...
ReplyDeleteBTW, to honor internet tradition, I'm now going to troll. This blog sucks.
